What is Holistic Psychotherapy?

Holistic therapy essentially means we look at the whole person; your mind, body and spirit. Through this mind-body approach, we create an individualized plan to fit your specific needs. Holistic treatments could include anything like yoga, mindfulness practices, breath work, meditation, exercise, massage therapy, and working with other complementary and alternative medicine providers. As we work together, and explore your unique struggles and challenges, we will identify any outside referrals that might be appropriate. Holistic therapists work with other health care practitioners to help support you on your healing journey.

Why Holistic Therapy Treatment?

Navigating the modern world can feel overwhelming at times. Now, more than ever we are inundated with constant demands on our time, exposure to social media, internal and external pressure to do and be more. A quick google search or scroll on social media will show you people praising one size fits all approaches that will solve all of your problems. Trying to filter all of this out, tune into your own needs and figure out what will help can be exhausting!

This is why I believe in holistic treatment. No one thing is going to solve all of your problems and believing so will keep you feeling frustrated and stuck. What works for one person might not work for you. You are your own unique person with your own unique needs, struggles and desires. Your therapy should reflect that.

What Makes Holistic Therapists different?

Holistic therapy aims to reduce symptoms of mental health conditions by taking a whole person approach. We look at all of the aspects of your life and consider any areas that might be negatively contributing to your mental health.

Instead of just focusing on reducing symptoms solely through talk therapy, we incorporate holistic therapies like mindfulness meditation, breath work, relaxation techniques and other helpful strategies. These holistic techniques help regulate the nervous system, manage stress, improve sleep, promote relaxation and emotional regulation.

On top of the work we do in session to learn wellness practices and tools to improve overall well being, we also work together to build a support team of other providers that specialize in holistic treatment. Holistic therapy works because it doesn’t just view your mental health condition as a “problem”. We examine all areas of your inner world including lifestyle, diet, physical and emotional well being and spiritual health.

My Approach to Holistic Therapy

The women I work with have come to a point where they are frustrated and desperate for change. Their mental health has started to interfere with school or work and their ability to show up for themselves and others. As a means for survival they have developed negative ways of coping that are making things feel worse. They want to stop struggling and resisting the things they know will help them improve their mental health and want someone to help guide them back to taking care of themselves. They are grasping for straws, willing to try anything to feel in control of their life again, but they don’t know how or where to start.

That’s where I come in. We’ll work together to help you gain more awareness around your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. You will learn new strategies for accepting all of your feelings, even if you don’t really like them and feel empowered in a way you haven’t before. My goal as your holistic therapist is to hold space for you to explore uncomfortable emotions and help empower you to create the changes you have so desperately been wanting. I aim to be a warm, empathetic listener who also calls you out on your stuff when you are caught up in unhelpful patterns, thoughts or beliefs.

My approach as a holistic therapist is to help you explore the challenges in your life and identify specific coping skills and self-care strategies that work for you. We will explore things that have been helpful in the past and I will offer suggestions of new holistic treatment strategies you can try.

Along with building self-care practices and coping skills, I also help my clients explore their feelings, thoughts and needs to create a deeper understanding of themselves and empower them to advocate for themselves in their relationships.

As a holistic therapist to women who tend to be really hard on themselves, I strive to be relatable and fun when appropriate, and come from a place of understanding and compassion. Get in touch below, if you are ready to take the next step towards improving your mental health through a holistic approach.

I help college and millennial women struggling with anxiety, depression, codependency, perfectionism, self-esteem and relationship issues.

I value quality over quantity. Therefore, I only schedule a limited number of holistic and integrative therapy sessions per week so I can focus on each client’s unique needs and be extremely present with them in session. I use a holistic and integrative approach to therapy, to meet my clients exactly where they are.

During out time together, my goal is to help you notice the patterns in your life that have you feeling stuck, disconnected, and alone. I strive to support you in making the changes you want to see in yourself, whether you’re struggling with anxiety or depression, learning how to more effectively communicate your feelings, thoughts and needs, building healthier coping strategies and routines or letting go of perfectionism. I aim to support you through holistic practices wherever your journey takes you!

I know that therapy can feel very uncomfortable at first, especially if you’ve never worked with a therapist before. As a holistic therapist, we will look at you as a whole person; body mind, and spirit. I will ask questions, provide feedback, support you and gently challenge you to grow. As your holistic therapist, I am here to serve you and your goals while holding space for you to share your feelings, thoughts and needs. My hope is that you will feel accepted and supported as we explore ways to improve your mental health.
